Senior night is a special, heartwarming gesture for players and their families. This year’s boys’ soccer team consisted of eight seniors, all of whom helped their team achieve success by offering words of encouragement.
Senior Niko Fernandez, number seven, is one of three captains on the team and plans to continue playing soccer and studying electrical engineering.
“Whenever you go out there [on the field] just always put forth a bunch of effort cause all of this stuff goes by really fast…you can’t take none of it for granted,” Fernandez said.
Time flies, but the memories will always stay with everyone, no matter their journey. Memories are the things that are created with loved ones or even teammates, and will always have those to look back on, no matter how far or where they are.
Senior Cole Ebert, number 10, is also one of three captains and has dedicated his passions and work to his team. Ebert plans to continue playing soccer and wants to study secondary education to become an English teacher.
“I remember at a team dinner one time we were playing basketball, a couple of us and Niko ran into a car, and he had no idea it was there, and he just ran right into it,” Ebert said.
The things that make memories special are the people we make them with. There are no better memories than the ones with parents, not just because they are parents, but because they have taught us everything we know today.
Senior Elias Vela-Perez, number six, plans to attend college to become an electrician and hopes to get a scholarship to play soccer.
“I dedicate [my senior night game] to my mom cause she’s always been there for me, she’s always told me to keep my head on the field, and she’s always put me on a great path for life,” Vela-Perez said.
Motivation is a key component to playing sports, especially while facing our greatest opponents, but everyone makes mistakes and learns from them.
Senior Alex Toribio-Triana, number eight, is also one of three captains. Toribio-Triana plans to continue soccer and take his talents to the next level in college while studying automotive engineering.
“I would say Maize South [is our biggest opponent] because they’re a really strong team, every year they put up a good fight against us and help us learn from mistakes we can learn from,” Toribio Triana said.
We all learn from our mistakes, but also we learn from inspirations or someone who has helped their path to achieve bigger plans.
“Jesus Renteria, he was a senior my freshman year, he just had a huge impact on me, like throughout my freshman year we just built a bigger relationship, and he would push me through even after he graduated these past couple years,” Fernandez said.
