To arrive at school and be surrounded by teachers for seven hours a day, five days a week, it is beneficial to build relationships and be comfortable with those around you.
According to the National Center for Education Statistics, approximately 300,000 to 400,000 new teachers are hired each year throughout the United States. In turn, it is a new opportunity to connect and create a parallel.
¨I wish my teachers asked more questions to build a relationship,¨ freshman Lexi Anderson said.
Although some think a relationship with a teacher is pointless, others believe it can make or break the educational experience. Freshman Jaxon Monares says he has better relationships with teachers who reflect positive attitudes and share kindness.
¨Some of my teachers are a lot nicer than others; it´s overall more helpful,¨ Monares said.
Nearly 46% of students in a Global Youth survey by HundrED reported wanting better relationships with their teachers, indicating a high demand for positive interactions.
¨I have better relationships with teachers who actually listen to me,¨ Sophomore Kaiden Dochow said. ¨It is important to me that they aren´t rude about my questions.¨
If a student wants to grow their relationship with their teachers, Anderson encourages them to go to that classroom for Railer Time. This is an opportunity to work together and build a one-on-one connection without crossing boundaries.
¨This is helpful so they can help you and you can help them, it creates reliance,¨ Anderson said.
According to the American Psychological Association, students have an overwhelming desire to create positive relationships with their teachers.
¨I think it is important to have good relationships with your teachers,¨ Monares said. ¨Be willing to find time and talk to them, connect.¨
