The Tri-County basketball team completed the season with a 3-0 record in their tournament. Facing tough opponents throughout the season, like Haysville-Campus and Eisenhower, they came out on top.
With positive results and a good end to the season, coach Earnest Ferrier helped guide the athletes throughout the journey.
“I feel like we had a great season. We had fun all the time, and I could definitely tell they all enjoyed it,“ Ferrier said.
Wins aren’t the only thing that defines this team; it’s also the friendships and growth that came along with these individuals.
“Special moments were us coming together as a team and just really seeing the excitement and enjoyment when we would win,” Ferrier said.
The team persevered and showed resilience when facing tough teams, which led them to victory.
Senior Edward Garcia is a strong player who overcame struggles when in doubt. Facing taller opponents was a challenge, but it also led to growth and improvements in the athlete.
“[I improved] definitely on jumping and running and rebounding,” Garcia said.
Physical strides directly mirror his growth and confidence in the game. Support around the community, from friends and family, also gave the team an extra push and encouraged them not to give up.
Sophomore Hiatt Miller contributed to a lot of points made in the basketball games. Miller made improvements on dribbling, passing, and other skills, such as dribbling the ball through his legs, and not giving up. Miller was a new student in the school, but quickly became close with his friends and teammates.
“We’re still more like a family,” Miller said.
A season highlight for Miller was the tournament.
“The championship game, we want to get, we won three times in a row,” Miller said. “Some people were waiting for us after school, and I was like, so happy. It felt like we won, I don’t know, American Ninja Warrior or something. Everyone was like waiting for us, and it was such an accomplishment, it was so fun.”
Sophomore Ian Johnson had a successful season and had fun making memories on and off the court. The team is looking forward to the next basketball season with high hopes.
“I’m looking forward to shooting more baskets and making more points,” Johnson said.
