As the leaves fall and the air is turning cool, fashion is shifting with the season. The flip-flops and tank tops are gone; now it’s all about layered looks, cozy outfits, and boldness.
From thrifted flannel finds to oversized hoodies, fall fashion isn’t just dressing for the weather; it’s a whole statement and vibe. Here’s a look at how students are stepping into the season with style.
Junior Alisson Mercado steps into fall fashion with her go-to outfit, starting with the color scheme, following a darker/warm tone, specifically her favorite color, red, paired with jeans.
“I can’t go without long-undersleeves, they match everything,” Mercado said.
Mercado goes on to share what patterns and colors she thinks best represent fall fashion, including “brown, red, black/grey, burnt orange, and leaf patterns on skirts.” Mercado’s fashion is best during fall, because she can bundle up, adding a lot of texture and style to her outfits, associating the fabric fur with her fall outfits. Mercado prefers dressing up over being comfy; she finds it more fun, and it brings out a side to her fashion.
“My favorite fall outfit is black tights paired with a black skirt, and then a white polo shirt with a sweater on top and some nice black high boots,” Mercado said.
Mercado doesn’t just like to stick to fall staples or new trends; she enjoys a mix of both, really enjoying the old-fashioned style but also enjoying trying new trends. A majority of her fall clothes and fashion comes from an online app, Shein. A trend Mercado is loving right now is oversized clothing with an undershirt or boots, Tims.
“If I had to sum up my fashion into three words, they would be warm, mysterious, and classy,” Mercado said.
She thinks that the outfits should always match the hairstyle. A hairstyle can really bring something all together and make an appearance overall look different.
“With new outfits and new styles that are coming in, you gotta try new hairstyles,” Mercado said. “Try to see what you can do with it, so it matches perfectly.”
Junior Nic Bergman may not consider himself completely involved in fall fashion, but his peers do! Bergman’s favorite outfit based on fall consists of a hoodie with a flannel over it and some jeans.
“My favorite fall clothing piece I can’t live without is probably a good puffer jacket,” Bergman said.
The colors that come to Bergman’s mind when thinking of fall are brown, red, and orange. The fabric he associates with fall is knitted items, such as knitted sweaters. If it came down to dressing up or being more comfortable, he could not decide. A mix of both is what he likes to keep it balanced.
“I prefer trying out new fall fashion trends every year,” Bergman said.
When shopping for his fall clothes, he likes to go out and find things at thrift stores. One of his favorite trends right now with fall is baggy jeans. His vibe is more of a football game rather than a pumpkin patch.
“If I had to sum up my fall style in three words, they would be nice and cozy,” Bergman said.
Senior Alyssa Killian is known for her fall fashion and stylish characteristics. Her outfits are very eye-catching in the hallways and could leave other students inspired.
“My favorite outfit when the weather starts to cool down is cardigans and jeans,” Killian said.
Killian cannot live without jeans in her fall outfits; she considers them to be a staple in her fashion. Some colors she associates with fall are burgundy red, dark jeans, and gold jewelry.
“I think my fashion is best during fall and winter,” Killian said.
A fabric she thinks of with fall fashion is leather. Killian likes to have a little bit of cozy outfits and dressing up. She doesn’t like to just stick to casual fall staples; she enjoys mixing it up.
“When I go shopping for fall, I either go thrifting or to H&M,” Killian said.
She loves cardigans right now, as they add a cute touch to every outfit! When thinking of Killian’s fall outfits, think about a pumpkin patch outfit.
“If I had to sum up my fall style in three words, they would be mysterious, fall, and comfy,” Killian said.
Senior Jullian De La Mora has a sense of fall fashion, stepping into the season with his go-to outfit, some sweats, a nice hoodie, and tennis shoes.
“My favorite fall clothing item I could not live without is my hoodies,” De La Mora said.
Some fall colors he includes in his outfits are brown, orange, and yellow. An outfit he repeats often and likes to wear during the fall is some nice dress-up shoes, jeans, and a hoodie to go on top of it. Although his peers see him as having good fall fashion, he doesn’t consider it his best.
“My fashion isn’t best during fall, I’d say during the spring [it is better],” De La Mora said.
He prefers to dress up over comfy outfits. To picture his outfit vibes, think more pumpkin patch style.
“When shopping for my fall wardrobe, I like to go around Wichita and pick some outfits, then Walmart or Target,” De La Mora said.
Even though De La Mora doesn’t think his fall fashion is best during fall, he still enjoys shopping around for fashion and puts some thought behind his outfits.
“If I were to describe my fall fashion in three words, they would be cozy, cool, and stylish,” De La Mora said.
