Walk into any high school cafeteria or scroll through a few videos on TikTok pages, and you’ll hear it: a growing vocabulary and trend for teenagers. Whether it comes from social media or even just an inside joke with friends, “vocal stims” have been adopted all around the world.
Sophomore Kayden Campbell has hopped on the trend of “vocal stims” and has lots of phrases she likes to say.
“I feel like I’ve recently been saying I’m just a baby a lot,” Campbell said.
Campbell said this phrase originated from a popular TikTok audio, and it has since become a widely used saying among high school students. She and many others say this more often than not, and it has prompted more peers to joke about it in their daily lives.
“Me and my friend Courtney say this so much that it’s starting to rub off on other people,” Campbell said.
Freshman Lily Kemp said her “vocal stims” aren’t as popular as others and were created as an inside joke between her and her friends.
“During my trip to Florida, we started saying coconut every time we saw one, and we got to hit the other person if you say it first,” Kemp said.
Although this vocabulary isn’t as popular as others, Kemp and her friend continue to joke about it, even after their trip.
“I like that we could make up a niche saying so me and my friend can only joke about it,” Kemp said.
Sophomore Codi Rose enjoys the “vocal stims” from TikTok and how much it’s become a part of her vocabulary.
“I keep saying beefing with my chick while I’m in jail,” Rose said.
This also originated from a popular TikTok audio and has become a very popular saying among many teenagers.
“Now every time it gets quiet, I have to say it because it’s so funny to me,” Rose said.
