Students across the school are grabbing cameras and turning everyday activities into moments worth capturing. Some do it for fun, while others want to utilize their skills to advance to a higher level.
Senior Kaia Bach has been taking pictures since her sophomore year when she joined yearbook. She has always enjoyed the picture-taking environment.
“I’ve always been interested in it because my mom is a photographer, so I grew up watching her take pictures, and she would just take me out to take pictures together,” Bach said. Interacting with people plays a big role in certain parts of photography. Seeing positive reactions from people is a highlight for Bach.
“[My favorite part is] showing people the pictures I’ve taken of them, and they think they look cool, and so it’s fun to see people’s reactions,” Bach said.
Although she has a special talent, Bach doesn’t plan on pursuing a photography career after high school, with her main plan focused on dentistry.
Sophomore Landyn Rains is another yearbook member who started taking pictures about a year ago after having an interest in photography for a long time. Sports pictures have been the most popular for him.
“My favorite sports to take pictures of are soccer and basketball because I feel like there’s a lot of action,” Rains said.
Rains plans to continue taking pictures for the yearbook through the rest of high school and even after.
“I want to be on a media team in college for sure, and take pictures for college sports, other than that, maybe when I’m older, a little bit of professional work,” Rains said.
Junior Caroline Rickard takes pictures mainly for fun and has had an interest in photography since she was little. She recently decided to pick back up where she left off.
“I got my first camera when I was probably in kindergarten, and I took it everywhere, and that’s what started it,” Rickard said. “I got back into it when I borrowed a camera from someone to take pictures during cross country season, and I was like, ‘wow,’ I need to start doing this again.”
While a lot of people enjoy looking through the lens for sports, Rickard prefers more scenic views.
“I really like doing the nature side, not necessarily the fast, in-game photos, so I like going on hikes and taking pictures of things I see,” Rickard said.
