As the weather gets crisper, students and teachers are watching and reading their fall favorites. They all spend the season differently, but several are excited to read books or watch movies.
Whether the genre is horror, romance, fiction, or comedy, students and teachers have enjoyed fall activities. Some families have traditions for fall activities that they look forward to.
“During the fall season, I have a tradition where I like to watch horror movies or scary movies,” English Teacher Ryan Kopper said.
Some students and staff enjoy their fall watching horror movies. Horror movies are a must in the fall season, because the adrenaline rush of what is coming next. On the other hand, others prefer love stories, fall comedies, or even the classics, like Harry Potter. Fall is a time when families can gather, relax on the couch, enjoy snacks, and bond over movies everyone loves.
“I’d have to say my favorite [movie] is ‘Harry Potter,’ because I always watch it with my family during Christmas and fall,” sophomore Xitlali Lujano said.
Instead of watching one genre and moving on to the next, students spend time watching a series of movies repeatedly because they are enjoyable. “Harry Potter” is a long series that seems to catch a lot of families’ attention during the fall. The series involves love, courage, and friendship. “Harry Potter” can resonate deeply with the watchers or readers in various ways. The “Halloween” series is about a psychopathic killer named Michael Myers who kills teenagers in Illinois after escaping from a mental institution.
“I think if a student were to start watching the Halloween series, specifically when it is Halloween time, that would be great,” Kopper said.
If they like being scared and feeling the adrenaline rush, the Halloween series is a fan favorite. Many popular movies can be watched during different seasons, which makes them a favorite for people.
“I like “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” I feel like you can watch that on a lot of different holidays,” freshman Hollie Nagel said.
Being scared isn’t for everyone, especially during the spooky season. Numerous students prefer calm, emotional fall movies, such as “The Nightmare Before Christmas” or “The Notebook.” They would rather have tears in their eyes than fear in their body.
“I always recommend that people read whatever they find the most interesting,” Kopper said.
While some staff and students watch movies, others spend their free time reading books. It’s important to ensure books intrigue the reader’s personal interest. If fiction or mystery is an enjoyable topic, “Harry Potter” is recommended by a few students. If horror books are interesting, “The Shining” and “Gerald’s Game” will leave an unsettling feeling, so breaks might have to be taken from reading, according to Kopper.
“I recommend ‘The Chosen’ series,” Lujano said.
If anyone wants to keep up with religion and stay connected with God, a sophomore, Xitlali Lujano, recommends “The Chosen” series. Romance books are based on love between two people, and a series of events leads up to the true love those two individuals find.
“My favorite genre of books is romance,” sophomore Alex Garcia Toribio said.
If a heartfelt book is what appeals, romance is a good place to start. “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” is an emotional book and shows what to avoid while dating. Some students and staff like unusual and odd books because that is what makes them interesting.
“I like unique things. I like thought-provoking movies and books,” Kopper said.
