From questionable styles to unique hobbies, everyone goes through phases in life where they learn and grow, ultimately becoming a different person. Some phases are a trend, and multiple people go through them at once. An example of this is a viral trend that took place in 2020, where whipped coffee took over the internet. Countless people went through this phase in their lives, and it was something people bonded over during the pandemic.
Another viral phase started in 2016 and lasted strongly until 2019, when kids would make slime, a stretchy goo-like substance often used for stress relief and fidgeting. Freshman Daisy Bradshaw took part in this trend and recalls it being a major phase of her life at seven years old.
“My friends were doing it, it was just easy to make, and it was fun,” Bradshaw said.
Bradshaw explained that slime is made from mixing glue and some sort of activator, her favorite being Tide Laundry Detergent.
Slime can also be customized by dying it different colors and adding glitter.
“I think it makes me a more creative person and want to make things myself,” Bradshaw said. Although slime can be a fun and creative outlet, it is traditionally a messy activity.
Bradshaw recalls getting slime on her carpets, in her hair, and even on the ceiling, which ultimately led to her slime phase coming to an end.
“My parents were very upset at me because I got it everywhere, and they told me that I could no longer bring it into the house,” Bradshaw said. Another common phase people go through in life involves style and clothing. Sophomore Madyson Gomez went through a phase in her sixth and seventh grade years that most girls can relate to: the headband phase.
Gomez would wear a thick black, sometimes tie-dye, headband every single day.
“I would wear it across my forehead, not even actually keeping back my hair, because I would still have my hair down,” Gomez said.
She regrets going through this phase in her life and recommends that others not partake in it, but recalls her friends doing something similar at the same time as her, which was her favorite memory from the phase.
“It was a dumb thing to do, like it just wasn’t cool at the time, and I thought it was,” Gomez said.
Hairstyles are also a dominant feature in life phases.
Sophomore Bryson Fair has participated in five of these viral hairstyles, with his most notable being a middle part.
“My middle part was pretty ugly. I was pretty chopped, and so I think it really changed the way I look at myself,” Fair said.
Fair revealed he regrets this life phase because of the way people picked on him, saying that people would call him “Lil’ Huddie”, a popular TikTok star who also wore his hair in a middle part.
“I get made fun of a lot to this day… but I actually think it was pretty good, because it’s character development, you know. Bullying isn’t good, but it builds character,” Fair said.
Although his experimentation with a new hairstyle was entertaining for a while, Fair ultimately decided to switch it up.

“Eventually, I just figured out that I look better with messy hair, and so I decided to perm my hair one day… now I just kind of have messy hair, you know, a low taper fade,” Fair said.
