Although our Hollywood-themed homecoming dance took place over a month ago and the glitz and glamour have faded, the memories still shine bright as we reflect on the fall semester. Homecoming remains one of the most anticipated events put together by StuCo each year, bringing the school community together in celebration and spirit.
¨I had a lot of fun, especially getting ready with my friends¨ Queen nominee Xaydi Valdivia said.
As part of the tradition, three female and three male students are nominated to be on the homecoming court, offering their leadership and school pride as role models for their peers. After a spirited voting process, the winners are crowned the night before the big dance, marking a highlight of the fall season.
¨I try to be really nice and put myself out there. Kindness goes a long way¨ Queen Ady Klug said.
The week leading up to Homecoming is always packed with excitement, school spirit, and memorable moments shared with friends. From themed dress-up days to lively pep rallies, the energy is everywhere. However, it’s important to recognize that all the fun is paired with a fair share of stress—especially for the six students selected as candidates for Homecoming King and Queen.
¨I really enjoyed the activities, but it was kind of stressful missing senior classes, which are harder,¨ Klug said.
StuCo helps put together and organize games for these candidates to participate in to make the week more enjoyable. These games were played at the pep assembly and some throughout the school day. There was a wide variety of activities this year, and all appeared to build the overall excitement.
¨It was a lot, but it was fun¨ King Cole Dillon said.
A tradition during the candidate process is the lively performance put on by each nominated pair. Each King nominee is paired with a Queen nominee, and together they are tasked with creating an entertaining act. These acts are performed at both the pep assembly and during halftime at the football game. While some pairs pull their routines together at the last minute, others dedicate significant time and effort to craft something together. No matter their approach, these performances always fill the air with excitement and nervous anticipation for the participants, delivering plenty of laughter, joy, and applause from the crowd.
¨Our first time performing at the pep assembly, I was nervous, but at the game it was easier because we were further away,¨ Dillon said.
Since all eyes are on these six candidates, it is a great way to express part of them. The King nominees had their nice suits on, and the Queen nominees were sparkling from head to toe in their hand-picked dresses. ¨No, I don’t wish I had worn something different. The purple dress really made me pop out, ¨ Valdivia said.
