From the hallways to the sports fields, the school magazine captures the true meaning of student life, one story at a time. There’s a lot of hard work and dedication that’s required before the whole school gets to enjoy the final product.
Participating in a news magazine is an inspiring task that can be very rewarding in the end. The process of publishing a story is very complex and specific, depending on different students’ styles.
“To prepare for a story, I usually plan out my questions first, but before I do that, I think about where I’m going with my story,” senior Design Editor Emelia Mosqueda said. “Then, I gather my questions, and then depending on what the story is, I either find specific people to interview or I walk around the hallways and find random people to ask questions.”
The News Magazine class is an elective that allows students to guide themselves through their own learning. Being a part of a student-led class, allows students to genuinely enjoy class time. Sophomore Reporter Addison Zerger said that she likes every aspect of the news magazine class.
“In terms of stories, I really like interviewing people and being able to go around the school during class, and just like meeting people. We are the first source to hear everything, which is really fun,” Zerger said. Design is also fun because I like being on the big screens and being creative. It’s a new program that I have never done before, so it’s fun to do stuff [on the big screens].”
The news magazine class has a lot in store for the upcoming semester, and can’t wait to see what 2026 has in store for them. Sophomore Reporter Cora Regier said that she is looking to further her journalism skills with the next issue.
“[I’m looking forward to] creating another interesting page design for our next print and finding a really good story to write,” Regier said.
The news magazine class is very challenging, but rewarding. Not only are students producing a product that future generations will look back on, but they are making lifelong friendships along the way.
“News mag is super fun, and we have really good bonds with the people in our class,” Mosqueda said. “It’s student-led, so it’s super fun.”
