From being a kindergartner, and in just one blink, now a senior in high school, figuring out what career path to take, is a huge step into the real world.
It’s scary stepping out of a comfort zone to explore new environments that suit someone and meet new people who soon become a person’s best friends over time. College is an experience that everyone should take if they have the chance.
“ I want to have a stable job out of college, [and] college is going to help me with that,” senior Aiden Weeks said.
Weeks will be majoring in business, and he will attend Wichita State University next fall. WSU is 20 minutes away, which had a huge impact on his decision. Weeks is an active person, playing multiple sports, so he hopes to stay outside and be active while in college. Most athletes like to stay active in college, whether that is playing a sport or not.
“[My passions are] cheer, dance, and hanging out with family,” senior Kenzi Botterweck said.
Botterweck got a scholarship for cheer and will be attending Hutch Community College while majoring in Paramedics. She’s always wanted to pursue healthcare, and her uncle inspired her to be a paramedic. Everyone has different aspirations in life, and different characteristics can be beneficial.
“I would describe myself as dedicated, dependable, and caring,” senior Kinlee Unruh said, “I care for others, I’m dedicated to getting anything done, and anyone can depend on me to do something.”
Unruh will be majoring in Radiological Technology at Friends University, which is 30 minutes away from home. Unruh’s mom is a coach for the softball team, and she earned a scholarship, which influenced her decision. She’s very involved in high school and hopes to remain involved in college. Deciding on college majors heavily depends on an individual’s strengths and weaknesses.
“I think I’ve always wanted to be a teacher so I could help people,” senior Arica Kern said.
Kern will be attending Cowley Community College next fall, majoring in Elementary Education. She will also be competing in softball. Kern got a scholarship to play, and she hopes to stay busy with softball.
“I want to be involved in something, and they offer many clubs or internships that can fill that role,” Unruh said.
