Stepping into high school can be intimidating for anyone, but for many freshmen, the people who inspire them help light the way. From parents who have inspired their children to teachers who push them to do their best, these students draw strength from those who motivate them.
Inspiration doesn’t always come from a single source. It can come from the people who know them the best or those they only just met. For freshman Jase Marsh, a year-round basketball player, managing school and sports is far from easy. Between long practices, late games, and keeping up with homework, the stress can pile up quickly. Luckily for Marsh, his dad has always been there to push him to his highest potential.
“He just wants the best for me, and he doesn’t expect anything in return,” Marsh said.
Like Marsh, other freshmen also find motivation in the people who help them navigate high school life. Freshman Brodi Roath said her parental support system is also outstanding. Roath is an athlete, honors student, and freshman class president. Balancing academics, athletics, and leadership takes constant effort, but she finds her motivation close to home. She credits her mom as her biggest inspiration, describing her as someone she relies on for encouragement and guidance every step of the way.
“She’s always there to encourage me and keeps me focused on what needs to be done, and I know that she will support me throughout my high school experience,” Roath said.
Teachers also play a crucial role in encouraging students to succeed. For Hayley Mitts, her biggest inspiration came from Physical Education teacher Tommy Edgmon. Mitts found that Edgmon helped her grow not only physically but also mentally by boosting her confidence. This guidance has shown her that inspiration doesn’t always come from family. It’s often found in the mentors who see students’ potential before they see it for themselves.
“He inspires me to grow and push myself to be better every single day,” Mitts said.
