Having a parent in a student’s life, inside and outside of their home, can be something that influences and affects people throughout their lives.
Several students have different pros of having the people closest to them constantly around them. Freshman Avery Entz feels comfort in having a parent in the building.
“I do like having a parent working in school, because I can just go see her all the time,” Entz said.
Entz loves having her mom so close because she can grab a snack, say hi, or check in when she’s not feeling good. She also feels that having her mom around as a teacher helped her be a more successful student.
“I feel like she helps me learn better because she knows how I learn good,” Entz said.
Junior Caroline Rickard has experienced having both of her parents work at the high school.
“They do a pretty good job of like giving [me] space,” Rickard said.
As a freshman, Rickard said her mom was her math and seminar teacher throughout freshman year, so she saw her mom every day in school. Having her mom nearby made hard days a little bit easier.
“It’s nice, like when I need something, I can go ask,” Rickard said.
Rickard said she doesn’t feel restricted, even though both of her parents work in the school and are constantly around.
Sophomore Edgar Tapia-Ramirez also expressed much gratitude for his mom working in the school.
“I like it because it’s always nice to see your mom out of nowhere,” Tapia-Ramirez said.
Tapia-Ramirez said having a parent working for the high school has helped him try to be a better student and work hard to achieve good grades.
“When I first came to Newton High School, she helped me understand the layout of the school and help[ed] me find my classes,” Tapia-Ramirez said.
