How smoothly would our school run without our wonderful counselors? We all know how important every staff member is, but counselors often go above and beyond in ways we don’t notice. Counselors spend countless hours creating student schedules, guiding upperclassmen, and addressing questions about life after high school. They’re always there for students who need extra time and support. We’re lucky to have multiple counselors; actually, we’re fortunate to have some of the best. I encourage everyone to take a moment to thank your counselors for all the little things they do to help us succeed.
Counselors assist students in selecting courses, improving study habits, and creating an academic plan to help students reach their goals. They also assist students in exploring career interests, applying for colleges and jobs, and finding scholarships. But that’s not all; counselors give us something this generation really needs: a safe space and support. They listen to us when we need to talk, help us process emotions, and teach us important life skills. Counselors connect students to different support systems and opportunities that can make a huge difference. They also help with tough issues like bullying or drug abuse, and step in when students face crises or academic struggles.
As our school continues to grow, counselors are there to help every student adjust to big changes. Being new to a school or district can bring many emotions, but counselors do an outstanding job welcoming new students, organizing their schedules, and helping them feel comfortable and confident. Their encouragement gives new students hope and helps boost their confidence as they start their journey at the High School.
High school comes with many challenges, and sometimes taking a deep breath goes a long way. Counselors are available to help each and every student with their mental health. With experience, counselors boost mental health and improve academic performance in us, even if we don´t notice it right away. If you need a friend or need a break, feel free to contact your counselor and start making a change today.
Some people say the mitochondria are the powerhouse of the cell. I think counselors are the powerhouse of our school—they help students navigate the year, lift us up in hard times, and work hard to make sure every student feels safe and supported.
