Senior leaders have risen to the occasion by filling the presidential positions of clubs. A wide variety of clubs are offered to make high school an unforgettable experience.
Becoming involved throughout high school prepares students for their future by allowing them to discover their career interests, develop leadership skills, and engage with their community. Senior Student Body President Nadiya Avendano said STUCO has helped her get out of her shell.
“I decided to be president because it was a great way for me to get more involved in the school’s community and help organize school events,” Avendano said.
Running a club as a student comes with a lot of tasks and responsibilities beyond homework. Students, such as senior Business Professionals of America president Dayali Sanchez, said that her responsibilities come with setting up meeting dates and working to improve the quality of the club. Depending on the club, several presidents were nominated by their peers, and others presented their qualifications to judges.
“I was one of a bunch of people running, and I had to go up and give a speech as to why I think I should be president, and then everybody wrote somebody’s name on a piece of paper,” senior Chemistry Club President Max Rose said. “Then, they all get counted as to who won.”
Now that the presidents are set, it’s time to experience the most thrilling school year yet. One of the biggest events of the whole year just recently took place. Homecoming was nothing less than fantastic, with the football game, homecoming royalty being announced, and the dance all in the span of one week.
“My favorite thing that the student council does would have to be planning dances or spirit weeks,” Avendano said. “I just think it’s really fun to think about different ideas and consider what the student body would want.”
Part of the mission is considering what the student body is waiting to see. The commitment and dedication of the right person will take the school a long way. Although it might seem like a lot of responsibilities, it is something these students take pride in doing. A majority of these students have been highly involved in their club since their freshman year.
“Becoming president was a really great opportunity for me and is something that I will forever cherish because it brought a lot of new relationships,” Avendano said. People can look up to me and know me, and I just really like spreading kindness around the school. “
As seniors leave, new freshmen come in with a clean slate, ready to make their impact on the school. Teaching underclassmen the ropes is a great way to keep traditions alive. A handful of clubs offer different activities within their club that allow students to branch out and dive deeper into what they are interested in.
“Join BPA, it has something for everyone, and there are just so many advantages, such as meeting new people, scholarships, and experiences,” Sanchez said.
