The Newton soccer team were looking to continue their winning streak at home against the Goddard Lions. The Railers came to play, winning both JV and varsity games 9-0 and 7-0, respectively. Sophomore Xander Valdivia got the scoring started for the day for JV. The game would include a Goddard goal and a great performance by freshman Gage Lettau. Lettau had assists on two goals and scored on goals two and five. The Railer defense was strong throughout the contest as both varsity and JV did not face much pressure from the Lions.

The Varsity would follow up JV’s strong performance with a shutout of their own. The Railer’s offense was constant throughout the contest. The scoring was widespread as six players scored seven goals, highlighted by senior Jose Rojas’ 2 goal performance and senior Bruno Duran’s beautiful, 30 yard sinking shot in the 2nd half. Seniors Sonny Ortiz, Andy Deckert, Edward Valdivia, and Oscar Campos would all find the goal, leading to a strong victory.

The wins pushed JV to 2-0-2 and varsity to a 4-3 record. The Railer soccer teams are back in action Thursday, hosting Valley Center.
