For many students, school lunch is a daily commodity from the age of 5. Years of the same meals give some students a sense of comfort, and others a boredom and desire for change. Students explain their different opinions on the quality, rotation, and options of the school lunches.
For sophomore Emery Masters, the best school lunch is on Fridays.
“I really like Friday’s school pizza because it’s from Papa John’s,” Masters said.
One thing Masters wishes for is more options. A suggestion she gave was peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, which aren’t served due to nut allergies. Another comment she had was about the quality.
“I would say keeping it fresher, and I don’t know, maybe less frozen foods.” Masters said.
Freshman Lily Kemp has another perspective on school lunches.
“I think they have a good amount of options,” Kemp said.
Along with many others, crispitos are Kemp’s favorite school lunch, and they give a sense of comfort because they have been a school staple for so long. Although she likes the consistency, she still wants more variety.
“I want more varieties of food and more rotations,” Kemp said.
The same rotation of food gets boring fast, with predictable lunches like crispitos on Tuesdays and chicken on Thursdays.
Sophomore Jaime Cazares has a different set of worries when it comes to lunch quality.
“The McChicken here, compared to the McChicken at McDonald’s, is so bad,” Cazares said.
Cazares said it would be amazing to have new lunches next year and hopes that it will happen.
“[I would] make it to where we can buy like Chick-fil-A sandwiches and like give us more good options,” Cazares said.
A few other complaints include dry chicken and a hair in the food. Overall, students have mixed opinions about lunch and are hopeful for change.
“Please get that one school lunch organizer,” Cazares said.
