Remembering Queen Elizabeth II

On Thursday, Sept. 8th, 2022, Queen Elizabeth II died at age 96 peacefully in her home. The Queen’s family was devastated, her oldest son stated that “The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family.”

The Queen had a very successful career starting when she was only 25 after her father Edward VIII passed. She was the queen for 70 years, becoming Britain’s longest reigning monarch. Following her death, her son Charles ascended to the throne and prepared to run England after his mother’s career. 

According to Royal UK, as Head of State, The Monarch undertakes constitutional and representational duties which have developed over one thousand years of history. In addition to these State duties, The Monarch has a less formal role as ‘Head of Nation’. 

The Queen had many duties, she lived through the Assassination of Apollo 11 moon landing., Vietnam War, Fall of the Berlin Wall, 9/11 attacks, Bitcoin launches and the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. 

According to Punch, Queen Elizabeth II holds the record for the most countries visited by an individual monarch. She visited more than 120 countries on six continents. Canada is the country she traveled to more than any other country outside the United Kingdom.

Charles will officially take the throne on Saturday, Sept. 10th, 2022. He decided to be named Charles III between his four names Charles Philip Arthur George. He will become the oldest person to ever assume the British throne.
