Freshman Nick Treaster walks back to the middle after the match

Newton sent five wrestlers to the state tournament at Hartman Arena on Feb. 25-26.

“They told me to take one match at a time, because if you lose focus it will stay in your head and then you set yourself up for failure pretty much so I just stayed focus on each match I had,” freshman AB Stokes said.

Newton had two wrestlers make it to the finals, Brothers Grant and Nick Treaster. Grant at the 120 pound weight class, looking to be a three-peat state champion lost to his opponent from Goddard Jason Henschel 1-0. And then with Nick winning his first individual state championship at the 106 pound weight class. Newton ended there season with an eighth place finish as a team at state with 74 point score and had four state placers. Freshman Nick Treaster getting first,  senior Grant Treaster getting 2nd, freshman AB Stokes getting fourth, and senior Sawyer Mock getting fifth.
