Sophomore Owen Mills goes up for the shot.

The Newton boys basketball team hosted the Goddard lions on January 14. The team started out strong and managed to maintain the lead throughout the first half. After the second quarter, the score was 47-36

“We were feeling confident going into the second half because we knew that we could have an easy win if we continued to play well together,” senior Alex Krogmeier said.

During the last three minutes of the third quarter, the Goddard coach had a technical called on him, which gave the railers the boost they needed.

“We were kind of falling off our grind” sophomore Owen Mills said. “The tech really helped us get back into the game and focused.”

The Railers won over the Lions 80-58. They will travel to Eldorado to play in the Eldorado home tournament on Jan. 23-25.

“We have been working on our defense things like that and more ergence to score,” Mills said. “We can win a bunch of games if we play smart.”
