Newton Railers faced off against Goddard’s junior varsity and varsity teams, Friday, Sept 20. The JV teams tied 0-0 while the Railers won varsity, 5-1.

Varsity started off losing with a score of 1-0. Goddard scored midway through the half. The teams had a break to relax and refresh in-between halves and the Newton boys took advantage of it.

“”We put our differences behind us,” sophomore Joel Franz said. “We had a lot of disagreement the first half.”

Communication was their focus during halftime. They spoke as a team and came to an agreement about talking more.

“The second half we just communicated a lot better at the beginning,” Franz said. “We got one, and we kept it rolling. We responded better as a team and put a lot of goals in the back of the net.”

The five goals of the Railers were scored by juniors Michael Velasquez and Santiago Fernandez, sophomore Mikey Parga and two goals were scored by sophomore Joel Franz.
