On Dec. 10 at 7:30 the Jazz Ensemble I and II had their Christmas concert. Throughout the concert there were 10 songs played. The Jazz Ensemble II concert was opened by “Newton High Shuffle” composed by alumni Douglas Ragon.

Every year the Jazz Ensembles have a Christmas concert, they play a few traditional Jazz songs and the rest are Christmas themed. “This concert in particular is the most relaxed, and we really enjoyed played the charts we chose,” sophomore Zeke Thompson said.

This concert was especially different because junior John Jantzen’s unique whistle solo in Happy Christmas Little Friend. Jantzen performed a whistle solo during Pops and Jazz last year, and the audience really enjoyed it. Director Greg Bergman decided to do it again this year. “It was great to hear his solo especially because he sticks with the feel of the song. I think it added a unique twist to a common Christmas song that you can’t get anywhere else.” sophomore Eli Redington said.
