Warming up for the scrimmage, junior Alex Krogmeier goes up for a dunk.

As a way to celebrate the start of all winter sports, a Winter Sports Kick Off was held in Ravenscroft gym on Nov 27. Due to bad weather, the winter kick off was cancelled last year, making this the freshman and sophomores first year participating in it.

The Kick Off was a chance for families and students to be introduced to the different winter sports offered and the students who are involved in each one, as well as a chance to watch all the basketball teams, boy and girls of all grades, show off their skills in a ten minute scrimmages against each other.

Prior to the scrimmages, the teams were individually announced to spectators who came out to watch. Some of the sports announced were, boy and girls basketball, wrestling, and boys swimming. The scrimmage was something new for the freshman and sophomores, and sophomore Marah Zenner reflected on her first time participating in the scrimmage.

“Yes I liked it, I thought it was a good thing to see where we were at and what we needed to work on for our first game.”

Varsity’s first game takes place at home on Dec 4. This being Zenner’s first time on varsity, her nerves were catching up to her, and she wasn’t quite sure what to expect.

“Yes I am nervous.” Zenner said, “This is my first time being on varsity and I am always nervous for first games.”

The kick off brought excitement to parents and students, getting everyone excited for the activities to come this season.

“[I am most looking forward to] making lots of memories with the seniors before they go because most of them I play volleyball with,” Zenner said “It’s nice to get to have another season with them and most people don’t get to do that.”
