Seniors finish out year with final events of high school
With seniors counting down their last days in Newton High School, there are many events for seniors to attend and say their goodbyes to classmates and friends.
Senior students started with senior awards night on April 26, when student scholarships were announced. Coming up next students will walk across the graduation stage on May 21 at 8 p.m. at Hartman Arena. Following graduation, seniors will have more celebrations to look forward to such as senior graduation parties and the parent-planned senior party.
This year, seniors are invited to attend a senior class party at Newton Recreation Center with the theme of Casino Night. The party will be from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. It costs $20 to get in. There will be a wide selection of games including blackjack, craps, roulette, poker and much more. The party will include prizes, food and fun.
“I am really excited to attend the Senior All Night Party and I heard there are a lot of cool prizes to win,” senior Olivia Antonowich said. “I think I am most excited to attend the Senior All Night party because my friend’s mom is in charge of some of the planning and she said a bunch of TVs showed up at her house, so I am hoping I can maybe walk away with a cool prize like that. ”Need transition here to show you are switching to talking about graduation parties.
Seniors can look forward to graduation parties that their fellow classmates are going to be throwing. Graduation parties allow seniors to relieve stress and enjoy their time with their classmates. For seniors, this might be their final time to see the friends they’ve made here at NHS.
“ I do plan on going to grad parties I get invited to. I really like going to grad parties,” senior Jacob Antle said. “I am looking forward to seeing all the interesting things teachers have to say about people, the speeches.”
Graduation parties and other events are very important and highly valued to the outgoing seniors because, for many of them, it may be the last time they talk before going off to college or starting their adult lives.
“It’s like my final goodbye to a lot of friends and it’s a great way to get closure,” Antle said.
