The creeks freeze over, snowflakes drizzle onto the frigid lands, and tastes adjust to the warmth of hot cocoa. It’s the season of the new year. 2025 is a year of change, in goals, lives, and the environment around us.
Students grow with the passing of the years, and so do their ambitions. They construct bucket lists and goals for what they want to achieve in the future.
“[I’d like to achieve my goals by] working harder in school, and I have been going to the gym to improve my emotional health,” junior Ace King said.
For juniors and seniors, graduation is around the corner. With such a fate awaiting them, they must prepare for their preferred career and many items on their bucket lists reflect that.
“[The most exciting thing on my list is] athletic training. I would treat injured athletes, and I would travel during the summer to different camps, ” said junior Jaymie Turner.
Bucket lists can have a more lighthearted approach, you only live once after all. Many experiences are sought after and are once in a lifetime.
“The most outrageous thing I have on my normal bucket list is probably going to watch Wimbledon because it would be really expensive,” said senior Mara Oswald.
Sought-after experiences are not always that tame. Sometimes more unique experiences can be far more interesting.
“The most exciting thing on my bucket list is probably swimming with sharks. Who does not want to risk their life at least once?” said King.
Everywhere on earth is crammed with life and history. It’s for this reason that a common bucket list item is visiting a particular location that is meaningful.
“All over Europe, like I wanna go to Scotland, I love castles, so the whole fantasy vibe; I would like to go explore that. Probably go to New Zealand for the “Lord of the Rings” thing – I wanna go to Paris, Greece, and Rome, Athens,” said senior Addilyn Johnson.
The clouds part, a golden beam emanates from the stars, and a new opportunity is presented from the heavens. With the new year, new opportunities become available.
“On my small list, the most exciting thing is the internship opportunity I have been able to access at Foley Caterpillar where I will earn an associate’s degree in Diesel Transportation Science or Diesel Equipment Science. It is almost entirely paid by someone other than me so that is the nice thing, but that is a lot of what I’m looking forward to in 2025, getting a job where I’m getting paid quite a bit of money,” senior Robert Christain said.
Bucket lists can be beneficial. If you have big goals or dreams – take the initiative yourself.
“Honestly just do not worry about making it like a SMART goal or anything, bullet points are easiest,” Johnson said.
