Students occupy their snow days with a new TikTok trend that is painfully chilly. Taking a leap of faith into the snow with nothing but shorts and a T-shirt.
This trend started as a joke but spread all over the Midwest. Kids are nominated by their peers and then nominate three or more of their friends to try this frigid jump. Senior Chavi Krehbiel said she hopped on this trend when the opportunity was open.
“I was hot after practice and I saw that I got nominated, so I was like you know what, this is a perfect time [to jump in],” Krehbiel said.
Depending on the pain tolerance a person can withstand, some would say it wasn’t that bad others would say it was freezing. For senior Vanessa Edwards, the thought of regret did not kick in until it was too late.
“It was freezing,” Edwards said. “[on a scale from 1-10, I would rate it a] 10, plus I did it at night [which made it colder.]”
The most crucial part of participating in this trend is warming up afterward to avoid getting frostbite. Another key part of this endeavor is to get it over with quickly and get back inside. Freshman Martha Cardiel Duran said that she put more layers on and continued on with her day.
“I changed my socks and then I put more clothes on,” Duran said.
A lot of kids attempt this just to post on social media, but would not want to try it otherwise. The majority of kids learn that it is cold after one jump. Doing this trend again sounds crazy but Krehbiel said she would do it again in a heartbeat.
“Yes because I like playing in the snow, so I would do it willingly and without a nomination,” Krehbiel said.
