Students speak about liked artists who’ve changed and are now viewed differently by society and their opinions on the artist as a whole. The lives of celebrities are viewed on social media and are continuously judged and reviewed for their every move and have a hard time keeping their fandom alive after years of exposed knowledge about their lives.
Senior Nash Green was a fan of Drake, the R&B singer because he liked how upbeat and fun the music was. However, after the Kendrick and Drake diss track it feels a little different for him to listen to his music.
“Some of it was so crazy. I was like he might really be a pedophile, listening to him feels a little bit weird now. I’m not for sure he might not be [a pedophile] too,” said Green.
Green was not expecting that Drake would be a pedophile, but it does make sense to him since he was at the Diddy parties. He still doesn’t know how to feel about the artist now.
“I still do listen to him, but some songs I don’t like or like even now sometimes it feels kinda weird [to listen to him] because he might actually be twisted, but so are a lot of artists,” said Green.
Green thinks It’s okay for him to listen to his music because nothing has been released proving he’s a pedophile, but it also feels wrong at the same time.
“You can like the art but don’t have to like the artist,” said Green
Junior Oliva Buffalo is a fan of Beyonce because of her diverse range of music.
“She has a lot of different genres [in music like] R&B, pop, and she has one country album,” Buffalo said
Buffalo likes that Beyonce keeps her life private and doesn’t show her home life online. Although rumors are spreading across the media, that doesn’t affect Buffalo’s love for Beyonce.
“Supposedly she killed some artists who won a Grammy over her,” she said
She believes the allegation was something small a person had thought which became known information all over the internet, so she does not think this rumor is true.
“I don’t think she would hurt anybody over something like that,” she said
Buffalo’s opinion of Beyoncé might change slightly but not much because her music is already out and she doesn’t have a problem with listening to it.
“It feels okay to listen to her music because if she did [or did not] kill those artists it wouldn’t have changed her music,” Buffalo said.
Buffalo remains listening to her music and doesn’t believe the background of an artist should change what kind of music she likes to listen to.
“When one rumor happens, it spreads and becomes a bigger problem that is probably not even true, so I do not think she killed those people. It probably was just a rumor that started and got to this big conspiracy theory … Beyonce will always be Beyonce,” Buffalo said.
Junior Marcelo Hernandez is a former fan of the artist P. Diddy. He liked most of the songs that were produced, yet after P. Diddy is arrested he views him a little differently.
“[There is] a lot of controversy and he bought 1000 bottles of baby oil which is a little concerning,” said Hernandez
He was not expecting this information that came out about Diddy, but his opinion does not change on the artist at all.
“I think of the music, not the artist,” said Hernandez
Hernandez still thinks it’s okay to listen to his music.
“I think what he did was bad, but overall I’m still going to listen to him because the music is different from the artist,” said Hernandez
