As fall sports begin to start back up for the year, some of the Newton High School football players have had to adjust to the new schedule. The team has two practices, one in the morning where they run through plays, and one after school where they go into the weight room and have team meetings.
With the multiple practice schedules, some of the players have had to balance academics along with the responsibilities of the team.
“Well, it just depends on how much effort you put into school. Because some people just put off their homework, which makes it really hard to catch up sometimes. I really just try to stay on top of everything the best I can,” senior Jett Miller said.
With the extremely high temperatures all sports teams have had to work around, the morning practice greatly helps.
“I think these practices will really help us all and it was really cool in the morning. It helped a lot with the heat” senior Niko Ramos said
With the early morning practices, some players have had to make adjustments to their schedules. With early morning practices, some players have had a hard time adjusting to the short turnaround between the end of practice and the start of class.
“It’s just pretty different. We used to have early practices at around 6 but now it’s just way earlier and then we have to go to class after, I’m more tired in class sometimes but overall I don’t think it’s that bad,” senior Eli Kirtley said.
The team starts their season off optimistic that all the hard work from the early morning practice and afternoon lifting will hopefully pay off this season.
“Not only do you need to have good strength and knowledge, but you also need to have good body strength. And if you don’t have both, you’re just not going to be playing the best you can.” Miller said
