On Aug. 14, a brand new wave of freshmen walked the halls of Newton High School. Embracing the traditions and the culture through the school is an important part of becoming a high school student. On the first day of school, the freshmen were taught the rules of the road, what the bell schedule looks like, the new policy changes, and they also experienced their first pep assembly.
Coming in as a freshman to a brand new school can invoke many feelings. As the first day of school for freshmen arrives, it can provoke problems and concerns.
Q: Do you feel like only going half the day prepared you well enough and why?
A: “Yes, I do feel like going for half a day to high school prepared me enough because I knew where all my classes were,” Kyleigh Williams said.
A: “I think it helped us prepare a little bit better because it was not so overwhelming for people. Sometimes a full day of not knowing where to go with new classes and a new building can be scary for other people,” Michelle Bungard said.
A: “I think it prepared me well enough because I feel like I don’t need the whole day to prepare myself. I can get prepared in half a day,” Clair Harder said.
Q: What were some of the issues that you faced during the half day?
A: “All of the kids walking slowly,” Williams said.
A: “Definitely figuring out where to go and trying to get through the hallway,” Bungard said.
Q: What was your favorite part and why?
A: “Probably seeing Codi [Rose] in most of my classes,” Williams said.
A: “I liked meeting my teachers, exploring the school, and getting to know it a little more,” Bungard said.
A: “[My favorite part] was seeing that I got friends in my classes,” Harder said.
Q: What are your thoughts and feelings about coming into high school?
A: “It’s pretty good and people are slow walkers, but it’s okay,” Williams said.
A: “I am excited for the new experiences and it is your last four years,” Bungard said.
“I am excited and I’m really excited to see what else I’m going to do in the future,” Harder said.
