Freshman year brings an intense new lifestyle to many students with new classes, teachers, expectations, and an entirely new building to navigate. Through a short 10 months of school, freshmen were able to reflect on their new experiences and how their lives have changed.
What were your expectations for your freshman year and why did you have them?
Leah Weldon: “Before going into my freshman year everyone talked about how it is easy but I ended up joining lots of different clubs and activities so juggling that balance was very hard for a while. I had these expectations because I’m a planner. I always try to have a plan for what I’m going to do next year. I have a fear of failure so planning everything I going to do so I’m not surprised. This year has taught me to go with the flow and everything happens for a reason.”
Mabel Wall: “I thought it would be much harder and maybe a little scary not knowing my classes. I had upperclassmen telling me to try hard in my classes so I thought that they would be much harder. I was scared of the high school because I had been in it before,”
Adam Oswald: “Freshman year I expected to be flooded with homework, I had these because my sister had so much homework to do.”
Chaylee Nash: “An expectation I had was to always have a good time at the football games because when I was little I always wanted to be in the student section with my friends.”
Gracie Newhouse: “My main expectation for freshman year was that school was going to be a lot harder and draining. I had that expectation because I thought high school was intimidating.”
Pozzi Krehbiel: “I expected to be more nervous about all of my classes and not find my way around the school as easily. School was a lot more fun than I thought and I was able to have more fun without worrying about my grades. I based these expectations mainly on my sister because she was the only high schooler I really knew.”
Taije Botterweck: “I expected to get a lot of homework and for my classes to be more difficult and I felt like there would be more drama than middle school. I had these expectations because I heard them from my friends who were older and also my family members.”
What expectations were met?
Leah Weldon: “Honestly none. High school is a lot different than I thought it would be and it’s already had a HUGE impact on me and my future. I never thought I would be where I am now.”
Mabel Wall: “I don’t think my classes were as hard as I thought they would be. I thought freshman year was going to be different but it honestly was just like another year of school. The school spirit here is much better than any other school I’ve been in.”
Adam Oswald: “The expectation that was met was all the sporting events, they all are very fun to go to and I always have a good time at them.”
Chaylee Nash: “Definitely being able to hang out with friends and still get work done.”
Gracie Newhouse: “My expectation that was met was sports I was very excited for school sports because I was at a new school and got to play with new people.
Pozzi Krehbiel: “The football games were more exciting than I thought they would be and more fun to be a part of.”
“Being able to make new friends with people who are older than me.”
What expectations were not met?
Leah Weldon: “Having the perfect grades. Due to how much I am involved in it has taken away my time at home to complete homework and assignments which led to the demise of my grades.”
Adam Oswald: “The expectation not met was the homework part, I am not constantly doing homework and I have a lot more free time than I thought I would.”
Chaylee Nash: “I was really looking forward to going out to lunch but then we didn’t get to.”
Gracie Newhouse: “My expectation actually wasn’t met highschool is a little bit harder than middle school but it’s also really fun. You get to meet new people and do lots of new activities.”
Pozzi Krehbiel: “The school dances were not as fun as I thought and not as exciting.”
Taije Botterweck: “School dances didn’t really live up to the hype”
What hopes do you have for your sophomore year?
Leah Weldon: “I hope to continue everything I am doing and help myself be able to practice my time management and procrastination. I am confident that if I can fix this and keep up what I am doing, I can get far in life.”
Mabel Wall: “I hope my classes are good because they are not classes that I want to take at all but I hope they turn out OK.”
Adam Oswald: “My hope for sophomore year is being more involved in more activities.”
Chaylee Nash: “I hope to do better in sports and school at the same time and have a good group of people to hang out with.”
Gracie Newhouse: “My hope for sophomore year is to continue doing well in sports and make many new friendships.”
Pozzi Krehbiel: “I hope to be more involved in school activities.”
Taije Botterweck: “I hope to have some easy classes and have more fun at school dances”
