Judging by the surge in cosmetic usage pre-teen girls are not being kids anymore and are skipping the pre-teen stage of life. Recently on social media, there has been talk about a new group of girls known as ¨Sephora girls.¨ These girls can be children anywhere from young elementary ages to 13 years old. They are known for being disrespectful, spoiled and for covering their faces with skincare products that they do not need at a young age yet. The Sephora Girls nickname is derived from the use of expensive makeup products from Sephora.
Junior Mariah Ramos said, “I heard from a friend about these girls, like I’ve seen videos of little kids doing makeup and stuff, I thought it was cute at first but then I heard they do bad stuff at makeup stores.”
Sephora girls are well-known for ruining makeup products that are on display at Sephora stores. They will make messes with testers, rip boxes open to use products in the stores, and do not pick up their messes when they leave. This means that Sephora workers have to clean up broken products and messes around the store.
“They’re kinda crazy, they just try everything on and break things like right out the container,” sophomore Gwen Hawkins said.
Skincare and makeup products are not the only thing that is getting ruined out of this situation. The products these girls are using on their faces are ruining the condition of their faces because they simply do not need an expensive skincare routine at such a young age.
“I feel like it’s not bad, and it’s good to have it and, like, have them build it up,” Ramos said. ¨But I feel like they have all this extra stuff they don’t even use and so it’s just a little extra sometimes.¨
Although skincare can seem bad for young girls, it can also be good if they are using the right products. It is best for pre-teen girls to use gentle, simple, and clean products for the face and to stay away from products such as retinol and harsh exfoliating scrubs.
Hawkins recommends what she thinks is best for pre-teens getting started with skincare. ¨Cera Ve, it’s probably just the cheapest thing and it works the best it´s probably one of the best drugstore stuff.¨
Sephora girls are also known for their large and expensive skincare inventory. They can fund their products by using their parent’s money and throwing tantrums inside Sephora stores.
¨The little 10-year-olds who spend hundreds of their daddy’s money in Sephora, they’re annoying,¨ junior Reyna Valle said. ¨I feel like they should not be going and splurging and buying everything to save stuff for other people, especially since they´re so young. They should not be using it yet, their skin is not matured yet.¨
Although Valle has expressed how she feels about Sephora girls, she has also spoken out that she feels as if her 12-year-old sister is one too.
¨My 12-year-old sister, she has like a 25-step skincare routine [and] it takes her like 30 minutes every morning,¨ Valle said
Sephora girls can be found all over America and even here in Newton.
¨My little sister is 10 years old and she does have a skincare routine and she has a makeup routine but she never wears makeup to school – she is not boujee, and she is respectful about how she is and some people need to teach their siblings manners,¨ Ramos said.
