In a survey sent out to the Newton High School student body, students shared both what they wanted this year for Christmas and what they anticipate the most popular gifts for teenagers to be this year. 77 students participated in the survey, responding with a variety of answers, however, some responses prevailed to showcase the most popular gifts among teenagers.
According to NHS students, one of the gifts they anticipate to be the most popular this year is UGGs. UGGs are a shoe brand, their most popular items include boots lined on the inside with fleece. According to Vogue, UGGs peaked in popularity in the 2000s before fizzling out in the 2010s. However, within the last year, UGGs have once again become popular amongst younger generations. Instead of the classic boot, UGG mini boots and the UGG Tasman slippers (pictured above) are the brand’s most popular styles.
Another popular gift, according to NHS students, is Apple Airpods. Though the product has been out for the last couple of years, Apple continues to see an increase in sales revenue from their variations of the Airpod headphones. According to Linkedin, Airpods have increased in popularity since they are small, easy to use and transport and work well with other Apple technology.
Many students also predicted that new phones would be a popular gift this year. Though some students were general and didn’t specify what model would be most popular, many students predicted the most popular model this Christmas to be the iPhone 15. The iPhone 15 is the newest iPhone model and was released just a few months earlier in September.
Video games were also reported as a popular gift amongst teenagers. Many students claimed to either want a PlayStation 5 or think others will want one this Christmas. Though it was released a few years ago, the console has been in high demand. According to Vintage is the New Old, even though the console used to be in high demand, the PS5 is now often in stock in stores, some stores even offering a discount. Besides just the gaming console, students also wanted video games to accompany their new consoles.
Starting from social media popularity, Stanley cups continue to be a popular gift. Many students predicted Stanley’s to be a popular gift this year, especially after last year’s large increase in sales. Stanley is a top brand of cups because of how long they keep drinks cold and because many see them as cute accessories to carry around.
Finally, students predict new clothes to a popular wishlist. Though it is a classic, new clothes are a timeless gift for teenagers looking to keep up with the trends. With teenagers, especially girls, clothing brands, such as Lululemon, are especially popular on Christmas wishlists. As the clothes are more on the expensive side, Christmas is the perfect time to ask for something new.
