After kicked out by the opponent, the ball is thrown in by junior Salma Chavez.

Newton’s varsity girl soccer team took on Goddard on April 23 at Fischer Field. The girls fell to Goddard 3-0.

Although the girls don’t have the most reputable streak this season, some players on the team claim they are still driven by spirit and friendships they have made through the team. The bond is what keeps them pushing forward.

“Our team has been really close this year,” junior Salma Chavez said. “We just play for the fun of it and getting to spend together at practice and bus rides and having fun at team dinners.”

Through team dinners and other activities, the girls have been able to bond and create inside jokes with one another.

“We always tell ourselves ‘plug in and don’t pull out until after the game,'” Chavez said. This came from an “awkward encounter” with the team and its coach, Robin Montano.
