Being a part of a sport requires determination, grit, and perseverance while also staying positive. While senior Karla Lopez Correra heads into the second quarter of the school year, she has to be able to balance home life and school life along with sports life. Being a part of a sport brings it’s own set of goals and expectations which are often aty the forefront of her mind.
“For this season my major goal is to qualify for state and if not, to just have a good track season, if something happens, it’s okay, it’s just a little bump, but overall, just keep morale high and just be happy with my last season,” said Correra.
Every season of swimming, senior Kennan Kioski goes into the season ready to better himself every year because he knows he has a fresh start. As he improves his skills, he needs help not only from his teammates, but also his coach.
“I think Tovar is going to do something because he said practice is going to be harder and pushing us a little bit more,” said Kioski.
Having a good coach is something every athlete should have and the motivation from your coach is an important part of a sport – and that is what Kioski and his team need.
“I expect the coaches to push me and my teammates harder each week,” said Kioski.
Competition is something that comes naturally for junior Allie Streck in wrestling. Fighting for what she wants has to be at the top of her list to keep her spot on varsity. As the new class enters high school, it opens a world of opportunities for students, with sports being one of the exciting paths they can explore. Students like to try something new and that is what everyone had to do a one point to get to the point they are at now.
“I feel like since the teams got bigger I feel like there’s going to be more competition to get on varsity,” said Streck.
Winning the games where every player that went onto the court, gave their all, and was able to collect a win gives the team an opportunity to feel good about themselves. Senior Camden Schmidt has high expectations for his last year of high school basketball.
“To go 500 so having as many wins as losses at least,” said Schmidt.
Schmidt Is able to see his goals before the season starts and has a good team that can work together, problem-solve, and communicate to persevere to the end.
“It’s going to be way less toxic and I think the teams going to be more in it together. Going to win more games for sure,” said Schmidt.
