Seuss’s ‘Oh the Places You’ll Go’: NHS edition

More stories from Aydan Rolph

Congratulations!
Today is your day.
You’re off to Graduation!
You’re off and away!

You have a PhD in PE
You have low self esteem
You have homework nightmares,
Specifically, geometry.

You’ll look up and down the halls, and know you won’t miss it
Particularly the locker where people made trash fit
With your boots and Jordan flip flops, your head full of knowledge
The state hopes you’re qualified to go off to college.

All Tired!
Whether you like it or not,
You’re not done with studying,
Not by a long shot.

And when you’re studying, it’s almost certain
you’ll meet other deadlines, you’ll meet other burdens.
Some professors will make you want to cry, others to yawn,
Some bosses that will make you want to quit your job.

But on you will study
though the papers may be long
On you will listen
Even when the sub bursts into song
On you will write
though you’ll get most answers wrong,
Through many tests
Many tears on your cheek,
You’ll get that passing score
And it will be quite a feat

And will you succeed?
Maybe, you see,
(the dropout rate in Kansas is 3.90.)

KID, YOU’LL PROBABLY STAY IN NEWTON!
So…
be it football, art, drama or ag
You’ll realize that NHS wasn’t such a drag!
You’ll do something, I swear!
Even if you don’t have a care,
You’ll have to contribute to society,
Somehow, somewhere!
Freshman? Junior, Sophomore or Senior?
Relax, kid..
You’re almost out of here!
