Running down the field, junior Megan Crist dribbles the ball

The girls soccer team faced the Buhler Crusaders on March 19 at Fisher field. This was the first game of the 2019 season.

“We were all pretty excited about of first game,” sophomore Makaylee Ybarra said. “We had a lot of nerves as well, but we were ready to play.”

The game had two 40 minute halves. After the first half, the railers were losing 8-0.

“After the first half, we kind of had our heads down,” junior Abigail Jackson said. “But we needed to keep them up and we were trying to encourage our team mates.”

Coming out of the half, the Railers were unable to stop the Crusaders from scoring two more goals, enforcing the mercy rule which stopped the game early.

“I felt like there were a lot of things I could of done better,” Ybarra said. “As a team we could of worked together a little more and we could have more communication.”

The final score of the game was 10-0, resulting in a loss for the Railers.

“There is a lot we can learn,” Ybarra said. “We haven’t had a lot of time this season because its a quick season to get into, but knowing what specifically we need to work on will help us against our opponents.”

Newton will take on the Eisenhower Tigers on March 21 at Fisher Field.

“We just need to learn how to talk,” Jackson said. “We need to work together more and not just focus on winning, but also focus as a team.”
