Lauren Mitchell, Newtonian Editor-in-Chief
Lauren is a senior and has been on The Newtonian staff for three years. She served as News Editor sophomore year, News Editor and Assistant Editor-in-Chief junior year, and Editor-in-Chief senior year. Throughout high school, she has participated in Scholars Bowl for two years and Business Professionals of America (BPA) for three years, serving as the Chapter Secretary for one year. In May 2017, Lauren placed in the top ten at the BPA National Leadership Conference in the Economic Research Individual event. She has been a member of Rotary Interact Club for four years, National Honors Society for two years, Spanish National Honors Society for two years, Model United Nations for three years, serving as a council vice-president in 2017, debate, and volleyball. She currently serves as the secretary of the Harvey County Youth as Resources board and participates in a number of sub-committees. She recently served as a trainer at the Kansas Youth Leadership Summit. This year, she will be conducting research under Associate Professor of Chemistry and Physics Dr. Kathryn Layman and completing an internship at Meridian Labs in Wichita, KS. She plans to pursue a career in the STEM field.
