The wrestling team hosted a dual where they competed against Derby on Jan. 23 in Ravenscroft Gym. The team ended the dual with a win of 40-36 which was the first time the wrestling team had gained a victory against Derby for 7 years. 

“I’m really glad that we won. The score of the dual definitely came down to the heavyweight match and the heavyweight pinned the wrestler in the first period,” freshman Rio Gomez said.

The wrestlers are beginning to prepare for Regionals on Feb. 21-22 and State on Feb. 28-29 in hope of having a bunch of wrestlers make it to the finals. 

“I am wanting to work on not getting pinned by state champions and lasting more than one round during our matches although in this meet, the team did great especially Rio because he secured the win for us,” sophomore Michael Tyrell said.

The wrestlers will host their next wrestling dual in Ravenscroft gym on Feb. 6 against Campus.
