Senior Juan Ibarra walks off after taking down the opposing ball holder.

The Railers faced off in their first game of the season against Buhler on Sept 6. The game concluded in a loss for Newton with a score of 14-34. This loss devastated some players on the team. Weeks of preparation for Buhler took place before the game.

Although it ended in a loss, some players are keeping their head high and working towards winning the next game.

“I’m going into my next game more conditioned and more confident for myself and my teammates and not think about what happened tonight and move on and get a win,” senior Juan Ibarra said. “I’m going to hit practice all next week really hard and learn my assignments better.”

The Newton team has another week until their game against Campus on Sept 13. The coaches will be making adjustments after the first game to better the plays and change tactics for the away game at Haysville.

“The team needs to work on keeping their heads up after a bad play and we all have to get more violent,” Ibarra claims.
